Part 3 of 6 (Part 1) (Part 2)
Barry Allen has his meet-cute with Iris West on the opening scenes of Part 3.
In a fast-food-based traffic collision, the audience is treated to the coolest use of CGI special effects in the movie so far. Barry’s shoes tearing apart, his breaking of the window and a nearly obscene hot-dog-to-the-face shot for Kiersey Clemons’ Iris West is introduced in The Speed Force. We’ve seen Flash in the other cut of the film and in dream sequences before in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, but this slow-motion scene really nails it. Taking more than a few cues from Quicksilver in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, Snyder’s stylized Speed Force and use of a big rig vs convertible car accident is filmed with careful thought to the effects and Barry and Iris having a moment staring into each other’s eyes before he dashes away. Plus, he takes the time to stick a hot dog in his pocket! Take that, Evan Peters! You WandaVision scamp, you! And yes, I’m lodging my complaint here about another slow and sad song. Tim Buckley - Song to the Siren. No Thanks!
“Boat Drinks”! Billy Crudup and Ezra Miller recreate our favorite scene from Things to do in Denver When You're Dead. Photo by Warner Bros. Used by permission.
Barry visits his Dad, Henry Allen, in prison played by Dr. Manhattan himself, Billy Crudup. Too bad we didn’t get John Wesley Shipp, but Jon Osterman will do.
Steppenwolf is still on the hunt for the Mother Boxes, and poor Lois is playing with Superman’s red cape, remembering her, ehrm, “Lost Love”. Don’t she listen to Jim Croce, man? “You don’t tug on Superman’s cape”!
Bruce and Diana split up to recruit Flash and Cyborg, respectively. Here’s a great chunk of what was missing in the 2017 version. Cyborg’s entire origin story, with his Mom and football action. Cyborg is a beloved character to folks younger than me, so great to see Ray Fisher get the proper origin story in the Snyder Cut, after being treated poorly by Joss Whedon, Geoff Johns, and more from the Warner Execs. You can get caught up on his Twitter. We love the visualization of his data access. It reminds us of Ready Player One.

Bruce creeping out Barry is mostly the same, and Barry’s Flash hipster lair is still cool. His Gorilla Grodd sign language joke stays in.
One thing though, after Barry catches the Batarang, and he’s eating pizza in Bruce’s car (a trope I often enjoyed in John Wesley Shipp’s Flash (‘90-91) TV show. Hey, that show had Danny Elfman score. What gives, Zack? (I always pictured that Central City to be the home to Flash in the same universe as Keaton’s Batman, I’m sure I am not the only one!
All I am saying is that Bruce would not allow this kid to bring that greasy pizza box into the car.
“Better speed-eat it or go hungry”, what I wish Batman said.

Things get a little mansplainy from Alfred in the Batcave with new footage to the Snyder Cut. If we are to believe it, Alfred is telling a 900-year-old woman how to make a cup of tea. Sure, she might not steep it like a proper footman, but, I have it on good authority that women of any age do not need this type of advice. Smash the patriarchy, Alfred! Do better!
J.K. Simmons is perfect to follow Gary Oldman in the Commissioner Gordon role. And he’s perfect as J. Jonah Jameson. How is this possible? Photo by Warner Bros. Used by permission.
Hard to argue that J.K. Simmons isn’t a national treasure. Did you see how jacked he got for this role?
Crispus "Cris" Allen played by Kobna Holdbrook-Smith is a Gotham City police detective on the scene with The Commish. In DC Comics lore, he is one of the hosts of The Spectre.
Aquaman and Mera fail to keep the Atlanteanowned Mother Box away from Steppenwolf, but we knew that was going to happen. Is this a new fight scene? Looks like it…and exciting underwater action!
Tune in for more! I’m just learning that we have 6 chapters here (not 4)…so the schedule may change unless we binge the rest tonight!
