Join me on Friday, February 28, 2025:
Don’t shop at major corporations like Amazon, Walmart, or Target.
Skip buying gas, fast food, or any non-essential items.
If you gotta buy, support local businesses. Support your neighbors.
Raise awareness on social media.
There are a few tools we have to fight oligarchs and authoritarianism.
We can show that small choices add up and can create real change.
When I shopped for Christmas presents in 2024, I shopped locally—no Amazon presents. I surprised Stacey with a cat—(actual cat still TBD, but we got permission from the landlord). She cried joyfully over it, which was a first for me. Even when I bought her a PS5, there were no tears—and she fucking loves Fallout (more than me, I think sometimes).
History has repeatedly demonstrated the power of boycotts. Boycotting is a tool we’ve always had, and it works. In 1955-56, the Montgomery Bus Boycott was a perfect example. African Americans in Montgomery didn’t ride the buses to fight segregation. Their collective refusal to support the system made a huge impact.
Boycotts can disrupt everything from exploitative fast fashion to companies destroying the planet. It’s a way to use our consumer power to challenge power structures and show we won’t accept being exploited. Today, we can wield this same power to challenge authority.
This is how we fight back.
As John Lewis said, “Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and redeem the soul of America.” This is our good trouble.
👉 Former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich is calling for a boycott tomorrow. Let’s make it count.
👉 Cancel your Amazon Prime subscription. If you can’t, no judgment—sometimes it’s the only option. Just know that every dollar spent elsewhere strengthens alternatives. Do what works for you. Consider a shared household account and turn off recurring deliveries.
Fuck Jeff Bezos. Fuck Elon Musk. ETTD.
👉 Tim Apple, you’re on thin ice, pal. We vote with our wallets.
And Now, Your Moment Of Zen…
