2024 YEAR TO DATE - CLAYNFERNO'S ENTERTAINMENT EXTRAVAGANZA!
Check out my Trakt activity!
Good year for movies and TV - even with only one REAL summer blockbuster!
Cheers in memorium (Shows we'll miss):
DEAD BOY DETECTIVES. Gone too soon!
STAR TREK: LDS. Those voyages were too short!
Some of the last season of YELLOWSTONE.
WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS (vampcouncil.com) 🦇. We'll meet again!
Jeers in memorium (Shows we won't miss):
That last season of UMBRELLA ACADEMY.
That last season of STAR TREK: DIS.
Most of the last season of YELLOWSTONE.
THE ACOLYTE...what even is this?
KNUCKLES (SONIC) ... def for kids...sorry Idris!
Still going strong:
Watching all ALIEN and PREDATOR Universe movies... Still a few to go, but ALIEN, ALIENS, ALIEN RESURRECTION, and PREDATOR are the highlights for me. Great making of ALIEN on PRIME (THE BEAST WITHIN: THE MAKING OF 'ALIEN'). I liked the new one.
Still watching STAR TREK: ENT. It's very good!
Big screen awesomeness:
THE PENGUIN expands on THE BATMAN universe, Sopranos-style. VERY GOOD!
FURIOSA was great. Sad I missed it in theatres.
GODZILLA X KONG: THE NEW EMPIRE was a fun night out with pals. Silly and great.
GODZILLA: MINUS ONE was a stark contrast with a serious GODZILLA story. Can't wait for more!
CIVIL WAR was the White House movie of the year. Stacey doesn't get why I love White House stories, I guess. Loved it. Beautifully shot. Reminded me of CHILDREN OF MEN (in a good way).
Documentary & Politics:
SUPER/MAN: THE CHRISTOPHER REEVE STORY - best doc of the year. Nerd alert! But seriously, great and tells the story of Robin Williams and Christopher Reeve's close friendship (I had no idea).
Followed by: WHITEY BULGER AND THE WINTER HILL GANG | FULL DOCUMENTARY ON YOUTUBE. MEIDAS TOUCH - AGAINST ALL ENEMIES. FRONTLINE - THE DISCORD LEAKS.
Comic Book Corner:
DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE - not as good as the other DEADPOOL movies, but blows away a lot of MCU movies. "It's fine."
Looking forward to more of these:
SEVERANCE, FALLOUT (Stacey's favorite, and I was certainly along for the ride!), PALM ROYALE (Kristen Wiig!), THE COMPLETELY MADE-UP ADVENTURES OF DICK TURPIN (Noel Fielding!), HACKS, MR & MRS SMITH, THE FRANCHISE, RESIDENT ALIEN, SEVERANCE, GHOSTS (US & UK), MAN ON THE INSIDE, CREATURE COMMANDOS, and THE BEAR.
No formed opinion on SKELETON CREW. Check back.
RICK AND MORTY ANIME was something. Not sure I liked it or hated it - same for SUICIDE SQUAD ISEKAI.
ECHO was decent.
KITE-MAN (Hell Yeah!) in the HARLEY QUINN ANIMATED UNIVERSE was a delight... plus my man RORY SCOVEL in it!
HYSTERIA! 80s horror throwback. Decent.
X-MEN '97 - I'm not as much of a fan as I thought I was, but I enjoyed watching this one...
Breakout/Surprise Hit:
MATLOCK. Kathy Bates. Remember when all TV was kinda filmed like this? Surprise yourself and check it out.
Theatrical Goals:
I didn't make it out to the theatre as much this year. Hope to change that.
Currently Watching:
DERRY GIRLS, THE DECAMERON, BATMAN: THE CAPED CRUSADER, SILO, POP CULTURE JEOPARDY, MASTERS OF THE AIR, FRANKENSTEIN (all), and DATELINE (podcast versions mostly) at the house. Maybe I'll pop on some sort of GRINCH before tomorrow.
Heard Good Things ("We'll get there"):
KAOS, SHOGUN
Standup Comedy:
ANTHONY JESELNIK: BONES AND ALL
RORY SCOVEL: RELIGION, SEX, AND A FEW THINGS IN BETWEEN
DAVID CROSS: WORST DADDY IN THE WORLD
TIG NOTARO (STAR TREK: DIS): HELLO AGAIN
NEAL BRENNAN: CRAZY GOOD
NIKKI GLASER: SOMEDAY YOU'LL DIE
HANNAH EINBINDER: EVERYTHING MUST GO
Horror:
TERRIFIER 1 & 2. Watched after seeing this clown everywhere on Halloween. Desperately need to see 3.
Movies, the Miscellany:
ARGYLLE (kinda ... boring?)
REBEL MOON 1 & 2 (garbage).
UNFROSTED - Loved it.
Saw PEARL - making our way to MAXXXINE...great stuff.
SALEM'S LOT - it's OK.
The Neverending Story:
THE FLASH ended last year...someday we'll finish it...fastforwarding through the Barry and Iris scenes no doubt. RUN, BARRY!
Thanks for subscribing to my Subtack! As a special offer, 25% off FOREVER special running until I do my stand-up show.
I definitely agree on a lot of this. A lot of it I don't even remember watching. And a lot I haven't heard of. You're probably doing better on Pop Culture Jeopardy than me. But good year. Thanks to you for 5 friendship!
