This isn’t the obligatory, “How to talk to your family about the election” at Thanksgiving. We should have figured it out after all of these Thanksgivings.
This week, our family was wrecked by the loss of a beloved pet good boy and the loss of a beloved great man who lived a long great life and who’s legacy will not be forgotten.
Though the tone of the pre-dinner speeches about those we have lost and who could not be with us today will have a more stinging impact before eating yams this year, the important thing is that we’ll be together.
We’ll be together in grief. Together in fellowship, together and alive and together and hugging each other.
Maybe there’s a reason our elections are held in November.
I’m currently listening to/watching one of my favorite artists, “Tim Heidecker and the Very Good Band - Live At Kevin's" on his Patreon. You can join and buy this 41-minute garage concert today there.
Tim’s music is a salve. Known for his comedy with longtime comedy partner Eric Wareheim on The Awesome Show, it’s great to see someone my age with such varied interests. And hey, he’s even on the Vampire Show this season. Granted, he’s famous but like when I asked Kara Swisher for advice about sticking with podcasting her basic advice was “If you love it, keep doing it!” It’s not like I was going to quit, but I sought out that quote to Keep Going. Tim’s version of rock keeps me going too. The only time I’ve flown out to the West Coast to see the band live. Tim-Head here. For fans of Paul McCartney’s Ram. If you know, you know.
Stacey’s still in bed, I’m drinking coffee and going to take a morning shower (the right time of day to take a shower).
Life is good. Life will be hard. Life has loss. Life has basics, food, clothing, and shelter. Life has gas bills, credit cards, 16-hour days and sending a text to a friend you haven’t seen in 20 years until a random encounter a few months ago. Life…has pumpkin pie.
We shall all go on.
I’ve made an appointment to get my teeth replaced. It’s been a long pre-pandemic ‘journey’ (hate that phrasing) that will soon come to an end on January 6, 2025. I’m only able to do this with your support and the support of my family, specifically my Dad who is loaning me what I need to take it over the finish line.
Everything here is free, that’s not a GoFundMe prompt. I am just genuinely appreciative that you have taken the time to subscribe to my sometimes neglected substack. I may not post a ton, but when I do it’s when my heart is at its heaviest and I’m in my feelings (I hate that phrasing even more).
Here are some funny Macy’s parade balloon pictures I found this morning. Poor Kermit.

Thanks To You!
Dedicated to the memory of my mother, Robyn Fernald, who I miss every day and especially today when she blew us away with new tastes every year while keeping the traditional turkey moist and delicious. The best to ever do it.
