Vault UnLocked: Margaret Glaspy Interview (2019)
Margaret Glaspy plays The Sinclair Tonight. Here is our pre-pandemic interview.
I finally see Margaret Glaspy tonight after interviewing her in 2019 at Do617.
Likely, this interview got only a few views, so I'm boosting here. I missed her Boston shows supporting Ruston Kelly and Spoon. This headlining date at the beautiful Sinclair will be my first hearing some of my favorite tunes live!
She has a new record out, hence the tour!
This interview is for her 2020 effort (reminder to ask Chat GPT for a better word than effort!), Devotion for a Paradise Rock Club show scheduled for 2 weeks after the world shut down.
2023’s Echo The Diamond is Now Streaming. The lead single is also the first track, and embodies what I like about her music, lyrics and songwriting.
Here is the interview in it’s original form at Do617.com. (Disclosure: I no longer work at Do617, but you knew that.)

Brooklyn singer-songwriter Margaret Glaspy is returning with her highly anticipated new album Devotion, due out March 27 on ATO Records. On Margaret Glaspy’s long-awaited second album, Devotion, this highly acclaimed young artist reaffirms her status as one of the most sharp-eyed singer-songwriters of her generation while managing to fearlessly reinvent her sound. The results are as exhilarating and defy expectations. We asked Margaret 5 Questions about Devotion and her upcoming tour coming to Paradise Rock Club on April 13th.
What other surprises can fans expect on Devotion?
There are a lot of new sonic experiences on this record, and I don't want to give anything away - It was really satisfying to have some new colors to paint with and make songs that I've never made before. You're in for more surprises!
Is it safe to say there has been an evolution lyrically on the new album?
Yes. I would say that I felt like this record is written out of vulnerability and love and that is a big evolution for me. The songs are earnest, and it felt cathartic to really say what I mean.
What are three words you can use to describe working with Tyler Chester on Devotion.
Adventure, Friendship, and Soulful
Are you looking forward to your UK tour and then touring the States?
Yes! I'm so looking forward to going out on the road and bringing this music to you all. It has been a long time coming.
What's something (a book, tv show, podcast) that is inspiring you right now?
I love the show The Mandalorian! I just read Deep River by Karl Marlantes and Sweet Days of Discipline by Fleur Jaeggy. They are very different from one another but I highly recommend both.
Thanks so much for joining us, we will see you at Paradise Rock Club!

Until next time,
